Los Angeles, Ca – Machinery and Equipment

As one of the premier law enforcement departments in the country, the Los Angeles police department possesses the top-of-the-line in transportation machinery and equipment. To effectively patrol the almost 500 square miles comprising the city of Los Angeles, the department utilizes a variety of vehicles; sedans, motorcycles, and helicopters.

In the first vehicle category, the Ford Crown Victoria Police Interceptor is the automobile of choice for patrol. It is the only vehicle, which, according to department policy, is allowed to engage in a vehicle pursuit. The cars are black with the roof, doors, and pillars painted white, a color combination in use since around 1940. Available options include handlebar lamps, large steel wheels, and front door ballistic panels.

Moving on to vehicles with two wheels, Kawasaki Police motorcycles are the most numerous in the motor pool, along with some Harley-Davidsons and BMWs. The cycles are also painted black and white, and hold a radio, radio equipment, a shotgun and paperwork used by officers. During rainfall, motorcycles are stored away and sedans are exclusively utilized for patrol.

In the airborne vehicle variety, the Los Angeles police department maintains a very large airforce, containing 21 helicopters and a fixed wing aircraft.

In non-motorized vehicles, bicycles are extensively utilized as transportation equipment by the LAPD. Cycle units are primarily used during special events to provide fast and easy police assistance. The units may patrol a ten to twenty-five miles area during any given event. Giant is the maker of the bicycles used by the department.

Lastly, there is also an equestrian unit comprised of about 35 police horses. Usually utilized during special events, specially trained patrolmen ride the horses to maintain crowd control. Though horses cannot be viewed as vehicles in the traditional sense, they do effectively convey officers to various points in a given beat.

Truck Accidents in Los Angeles ? When You Need a Personal Injury Attorney

Los Angeles is famous for its movie stars, but almost equally as famous for its terrible traffic. This chronic problem is made all the more dangerous by the thousands of big-rig trucks that use the California freeways as main arteries to transport the goods coming in from ports like Long Beach and San Pedro. Notoriously crowded freeways such as the 110, the 405 and the 605 are regularly the scenes of horrific truck accidents, making a Los Angeles Truck Accident Attorney a necessity. Because of the size and scope of these heavy trucks traveling at high speeds on our freeways, the victims of these Truck Accidents – most often the occupants of the passenger cars they collide with – suffer long-term gross injuries, such as spinal chord injury, head trauma and even death. As a result, there are as many Truck Accident Lawyers in Los Angeles as there are movie stars.

Truckers, like the rest of us, are under the gun now with high gas prices guzzling up a bigger share of their profits. Big-rig drivers are in a bigger hurry to deliver their goods. The result of all this pressure? Longer hours, less sleep, and more stress. Unfortunately, this is a recipe for disaster. Truck Accidents in Los Angeles are on the rise as is the need for Truck Accident Lawyers.

We’ve all seen it: truck drivers weaving in front of us, merging over into our lane of traffic, or following too close. And on congested Los Angeles freeways, this type of reckless behavior does not leave passenger cars nearby much room to maneuver. Eighteen-wheelers pose a particularly dangerous threat on the road. Fully loaded, trucks can weigh in at more than 80,000 pounds. Stack that up against a typical family car weighing 3000 pounds or less and it’s clear why a Los Angeles Truck Accident Lawyer agrees that this type of Truck Accident constitutes one of the largest proportion of fatalities among motor vehicle accidents – one out of every nine accidents. It also produces a disproportionately high rate of gross injury. Personal Injury Attorneys in Los Angeles who specialize in Truck Accidents can attest to the fact that 78% of fatalities in these types of truck accidents were not the truck drivers themselves, but were the occupants of the other vehicle. In many cases, these other drivers were innocent victims of truck drivers’ negligence.

So what are the contributing factors to these frightening truck accident statistics?

• Driver fatigue. Truck drivers are pushing their limits to deliver their goods, driving with little sleep and an extra load of stress. They’re driving faster and pushing the envelope of safety. They keep less and less distance between themselves and the passenger cars nearby.

• Inexperienced truck drivers who lack training.

• Driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs.

• Driving too fast. Did you know that a mere 10 mph over the speed limit can nearly double the distance a truck needs to brake safely– from 315 feet to 400 feet. In wet weather, those figures practically double to 720 feet for a full stop.

• Following too closely. The DMV recommends a car length for every ten miles per hour. But with big rigs measuring in at 65 feet long, you can see the stopping distance far exceeds the normal following distance we all see truckers following on the freeway.

• Loss of control. Seemingly minor errors in driving that could be easily corrected in a passenger car can become fatal errors in a big rig. Over-correction, too little braking room, and heavy loads balanced on the trailer can all contribute to a disastrous truck accident.

In October of 2007, one of the worst truck accidents in California history occurred in Santa Clarita when 15 trucks converged on a tunnel known for its safety issues. But the trucks, traveling at a high rate of speed, despite the low visibility in the curve of the tunnel ahead, caused a fiery collision, multiple fatalities and many more serious injuries. Truck accident experts – as well as Personal Injury Attorneys and Truck Accident Lawyers – believe that this kind of truck accident could have been avoided if the truckers had reduced their speed going into the poorly lit, curving tunnel.

Los Angeles Personal Injury Attorneys are all too familiar with the horror stories emerging from these types of catastrophic truck accidents. Collisions involving trucks constitute 1 out of every 9 fatal motor vehicle accidents.

While fatalities and injuries of the truckers themselves are concerning, they represent a proportionately small group of victims. Typically, in fatal truck accidents, only fifteen percent are the truckers themselves. Who suffers the most from truck accidents? People like you, Innocent people. Loved ones who did nothing more than get on the freeway to drive home.

If you or someone you love has been involved in a truck accident what can you do? Contact a Personal Injury Attorney in Los Angeles or a Los Angeles Truck Accident Lawyer who specialize in this type of Personal Injury lawsuit. They can advise you about what steps to file a Personal Injury claim, whether or not you have been injured. In one Truck Accident, the father of two children was killed in a head on semi-truck collision and was awarded $2,000,000. In another case, a man killed on a motorcycle by a big rig truck received a $4 million dollar settlement because of negligence of the truck driver. In each of these cases, being represented by an experienced and competent Los Angeles Personal Injury Attorney.

What to Expect When You’re Arrested: a Guide for Women Arrested in Los Angeles County

By Tonya Rynerson

From the homeless woman charged with petty theft to celebrity bad girls like Paris Hilton, Lynwood Jail becomes a temporary home for women arrested in Los Angeles County. Also known as the Century Station Jail, Lynwood is the main LA County jail for women. If you’re a woman arrested in Los Angeles, you’re likely to be taken to Lynwood Jail for processing and booking.

The arrest, booking, and bail bond process goes more smoothly and is less frightening if you understand the process and know what to expect.

Stay Calm During the Arrest Process

The police may arrest you if they have probable cause to believe you have committed a crime. They detain you, read your Miranda warnings (“You have the right to remain silent….etc.”), and transport you to a jail – usually Lynwood Jail – for processing and booking.

Even if you think the police are making a mistake when they arrest you, it’s important to be cooperative. Otherwise, the police may charge you with resisting arrest, which makes your situation that much worse.

· Never argue with the arresting officers.

· Don’t try to run away from or touch the officers.

· Keep your hands in view at all times.

· Be polite; don’t threaten the officers with lawsuits or yell about police brutality.

· Give your real, true name. Bailing out “Jane Doe” or “Sue Z. Cue” is next to impossible.

The police will ask you if you have weapons, needles or anything sharp that may harm them. Answer honestly because next they will search you to make sure you don’t have a weapon. Expect to be handcuffed and transported to a booking facility known commonly as jail. The majority of women arrested in Los Angeles County are taken to Lynwood Jail, but you also may be processed at another facility and eventually moved to Lynwood. If you’re at a large event like a sporting event or concert, they may have temporary holding facilities and will transport you later to a jail. Any transfer will add to the time it takes to get released, so be prepared to wait.

The police can question you before or after you’re booked. Most attorneys say it’s best not to volunteer any information except for your name and address, which you must provide. Be careful what you say. The police aren’t kidding when they warn you that “anything you say can and will be used against you.” If you request an attorney, they must stop the interrogation until your attorney arrives.

Booking Procedures May Take a Long Time

Once at Lynwood Jail, women are “booked,” or processed into the system. Nothing about the booking process is speedy, and you won’t be able to arrange for bail until it’s complete. In large jails, booking can take as long as 12 – or sometimes longer.

Major parts of the booking process include:

· Basic personal information. You’re asked for your name, address, phone number, social security, phone number, and next of kin information.

· Photograph. This is the infamous “mug shot,” which will look even worse than your driver’s license photo.

· Property collection. Jail personnel collect all your personal belongings including jewelry, purse, wallet, etc. and give you a receipt. Everything will be returned to you when you’re released, except for illegal substances or items kept as evidence. Check the receipt to make sure that everything taken from you is listed.

· Fingerprinting and identification. Your fingerprints and personal information are entered into the federal database for future reference and to check for outstanding charges, warrants or matches to unsolved cases. If they police took fingerprints at the scene, they’ll try to match yours to those as well.

· Body search. This can be uncomfortable, embarrassing, and/or humiliating. The extent of the search depends on different factors; it may be a simple pat down, but it could also be a full cavity search. The only good thing to say is that it must be conducted by a female police officer or jail employee.

Once the booking procedures are complete, jail personnel take you to a jail cell where you will likely remain until bailed out, released on your own recognizance (for minor offenses) or it’s time to appear before a judge. At some point in the process, you can make a phone call. The earlier you can make your call, the better, because it means your family can go ahead start working with a bail bond agent.

When you make your phone call, be sure to give the person you call the following information:

1. Your full name and date of birth.

2. The name of the jail. If you aren’t sure what jail you are in, let them know where you were arrested. Your family can’t bail you out if they can’t find you!

3. Your bail amount, if you know it. Also, let the person know that you do want to be bailed out and if you can afford the bail bond fee (10% of the bail). Remember, no one can call in to you, so make sure you provide all the information you can up front. If you call your brother and he’s not sure you want to be bailed out (duh!), you could wait considerably longer in jail.

4. Ask the person you call to take care of children, pets and any job situations that can be addressed. You may not be out of jail in time for work, so you may want someone to call in for you.

Your Experience While in Jail

The arrest and booking process is unnerving enough, but most women are terrified by the thought of being placed in the holding cell with a lot of strangers. It’s impossible to forget all those B movies and news stories about prison violence.

Naturally, there is some danger, but remember approximately 70% of women arrested in California are charged with non-violent crimes: offenses like drug possession, writing bad checks, petty theft, and prostitution. Only about a quarter are charged with violent offenses and most of those are against husbands, boyfriends, and other family members.

Remember that you are incarcerated with people you don’t know. They may be dealing with mental health issues, drug addictions, or other problems that make them emotionally unstable. It’s best to be reserved, but friendly. Don’t volunteer personal information; don’t make statements that denigrate a particular ethnic or religious group; and don’t give others the impression that you think you’re “too good” to be in jail with the rest of them.

Bail Bond and Release Procedures

The bail amount is set by judges in a County Bail Schedule based on the charges. Bail Schedules generally have differing bail amounts depending on the severity of the crime. For example, a DUI in LA County has a $15,000 bail; a DUI with accident is $50,000 and so on.

Bail can be raised, lowered or removed only by a judge. Waiting to be heard in front of a judge means additional time in jail. If you do wait for a judge, the judge considers the severity of the offense, likelihood that you’re a danger to the community, the amount of jail time if you’re found guilty, your past arrest record, and community ties.

The average bail amount in California is $25,000. Often bail is set higher. Since few people can pay the whole amount, you’ll probably need to contract with a licensed bail bond agent. The bail agent can walk you through the entire bail bond process and handle the release. Professional bail agents know the jail systems and often know the bail schedules. They can begin the bail process to obtain the fastest release possible. The sooner a bail bondsman is contacted, the faster the release can occur.

Bail agents charge 10% of the bail amount as payment for their services. The California Legislature regulates this cost. If a bail agent offers you a “cheap 5% bail bond,” you’re dealing with someone willing to violate California law, and that’s dangerous for you.

After all, if the bail bond agent doesn’t follow that part of the law, how can you be sure he’ll follow the appropriate procedures for obtaining your release and return your collateral when the case is complete?

Getting arrested is never fun: the booking process can be slow and frustrating, and a night in jail can be as scary as it sounds. But, in this case, knowledge really is power. Once you understand what is happening, what your rights and responsibilities are, and how to arrange for release, you’ll be able to handle yourself and stay calm until you’re back home with your loved ones.

Los Angeles International Airport a Hub for Travel and Transportation

Los Angeles International Airport, the primary airport serving Los Angeles, is best known by its airport abbreviation, LAX. The airport is located in city’s southwestern area, about 15 miles from downtown Los Angeles.

LAX takes care of more ‘origin and destination’ passenger traffic than any other airport in the world. It also is the globe’s fifth-busiest airport when measured by passenger traffic, and 11th by cargo traffic. In 2004 more than 60 million travelers were taken care of and more than two million tons of freight. Not surprisingly, it is the busiest airport in California.

In terms of passengers from overseas, LAX is America’s second-busiest airport, behind only New York’s JFK International Airport. It is the major regional hub for United Airlines, and the secondary hub for Delta.

United Airlines operates to the most destinations, followed by Delta, then American. United also sends out the most international flights to the Pacific, while it, Air France, and Lufthansa share the lead with destinations in Europe. Delta has the most flights to Latin America.

The airport is situated on 3,425 acres, and is one of the most propitious locations for commercial airplane spotting, most notably at Clutter’s Park in El Segundo, where the entire southern region of the airport can be watched. Another viewing location is right under the final approach for one of the many runways, on a grass lawn next to a local burger restaurant. Spotters may study a wide variety of low-flying commercial airplanes from directly underneath.

Though LAX is the largest airport in Los Angeles, the region has several airport systems because of its huge size. A good number of the area’s top tourist attractions are closer to airports other than LAX. For example, Griffith Park and Hollywood are nearer to Burbank’s Bob Hope Airport, while John Wayne Airport in Santa Ana is nearby to Disneyland and Angel Stadium of Anaheim. Long Beach Airport is in proximity to many of southern Los Angeles’ coastal attractions.

Los Angeles Bike Accident Attorney ? When You Need One

Every day thousands of bikes cross the streets and bike paths of Los Angeles. Here in sunny California, people bike both for exercise and as a means of transportation. In a county with poor public transit, if you can’t afford a car, sometimes a bike is the best alternative. But biking has its downside here in Los Angeles. It’s not a bike-friendly town with bike paths being a relatively recent innovation. But drivers here are not in the habit of watching for bikers either. Subsequently, serious Bike Accidents in Los Angeles – collisions between bikes and cars – has become an all-too frequent tragedy here.

Any Los Angeles Bike Accident Attorney is all too familiar with the aftermath of such Bike Accidents. When car and bicycle collide, the bicyclist gets the worst end of the deal. Unprotected by anything but a helmet, a bicyclist’s injuries can be terrible and have a long-lasting impact on their lives. Who is at fault when a car and a bicycle collide? Sometimes that’s difficult to say. Was the driver negligent? Inattentive? Did the bicyclist take a chance he or she shouldn’t have? Was the bicyclist following the law? These kinds of questions are best sorted out by Bike Accident Attorneys in Los Angeles who know the law and can sort out blame. Insurance companies (generally policies of the car’s driver) will attempt to settle a claim without a Personal Injury Attorney present. But be aware, if you are involved in such a Bike Accident in Los Angeles, only an experienced Los Angeles Bike Accident Attorney can help you get compensated fairly for the medical bills and continuing therapy you may require after such an accident.

This being the “Big City” moving vehicles are not the only culprits causing Los Angeles Bike Accidents. Potholes, sidewalk cracks, and poor road conditions are frequently to blame for Bike Accidents in which riders are thrown from their bikes. Municipalities like Los Angeles are responsible for keeping bike paths safe and free of hazards. This kind of Bike Accident can also be devastating even with a helmet. A helmet cannot protect your spine or your bones from injury and all too often, these over-the-handlebar-type Bike Accidents result terrible injuries. Even following the law cannot always protect you from Bike Accidents. Like a chess player, bike riders must think three or four moves ahead when they’re on their bikes, navigating the city streets of Los Angeles. Stopping at a red light next to a large vehicle such as a semi-tractor trailer can prove fatal. A bicyclist in Westwood was killed when the truck rolled right over him by turning right. The truck driver didn’t even see the bike.

Lisa Jory was riding with her husband as she always did on Saturdays on a popular bike path down a busy street in Santa Monica, a West Los Angeles social hub. She was wearing the helmet she’d always instructed her children to wear. She was following the law. But when a parked driver opened his door right in front of her there was no way she could avoid a Bike Accident. She was thrown over the handlebars of her bike and landed on her head. Her helmet took the major force of the blow and shattered. Her head took the rest. For the year that it took her to recover from that Bike Accident, she spent most of her days in therapy, relearning her life. Lisa’s brain injury eventually healed, but not before she lost much of her memory and the precious time with her children. Her husband hired a Los Angeles Bike Accident Attorney who was himself a bicyclist. They learned that this type of accident is very common in Los Angeles. Even though she was following the law by riding as far to the right as possible, she was still involved in an accident by a driver who didn’t see her. Lisa’s Los Angeles Bike Accident Attorney earned her a significant settlement that covered her medical expenses and her pain and suffering.

So why do you need a Los Angeles Bike Accident Attorney? First, you must protect your rights. If you suffer a damaging injury it could not only put you out of work, it could put your family income in jeopardy. There will be medical bills and pain and suffering. Insurance companies do not have your best interests at heart. They have the bottom line in mind. An experienced Bike Accident Attorney in Los Angeles will generally work on contingency, meaning that nothing will be required of you out of pocket until the case settles, then the Bike Accident Attorney will take his fee from the settlement. An experienced Bike Accident Attorney understands the ins and outs of Bike Accident law and can fairly represent you, take the worry off your back and give your family peace of mind at a time when the focus should be solely on your healing. So if you have had a Bike Accident, don’t delay in contacting an experienced Los Angeles Bike Accident Attorney. He will get the best resolution for your case and will protect what your bike helmet didn’t – your future.

When is a Los Angeles Car Accident Attorney Necessary?

In its 2007 Annual Urban Mobility Report released by the Texas Transportation Institute covering the period 1982 to 2005, Los Angeles is the 24th most congested in the United States. On the average, travelers take 24 hours of traffic delay annually.

Los Angeles is characterized by a large network of freeways, streets, and local and regional means of public transport. There are nineteen freeways that serve the Los Angeles area alone. Rush hour in the morning is from 6 am to 11 am, and 3 pm to 9 pm during the evening. Traffic congestion may happen at a time you do not expect.

Assessing the Need for a Lawyer
The need for a Los Angeles car accident attorney is dictated by the conditions surrounding the event. It is vital to consider the extent of damage to the car. For instance, a broken fender can be resolved by your insurance company. However, injuries that involve physical harm may necessitate a lawyer. Of course, if both parties were not hurt, seeking legal remedy is no longer required.

If you sustain a personal injury in Los Angeles due to a clear negligence on the part of the other party, you may need the help of a personal injury lawyer. Immediate legal assistance is required in the following conditions:

• Serious injuries such as broken bones and hospitalization
• One of the parties involved got killed in the accident
• When other parties such as pedestrians and other vehicles are involved in the accident
• The question of liability has not been clearly established
• Erroneous police report making you the liable party
• Technical, medical, and legal issues

Insurance matters such as reduced limits on liability insurance, no insurance, non-payment of insurance policies, and problem with the insurance provider. However, if there is a need to process an insurance claim, soliciting the help of an automobile accident attorney may be vital. Usually, any car collision lawyer will encourage you to consult them so that you will be able to file a lawsuit in the future. Unfortunately, they do not provide the specifics of when you need to consult a lawyer.

Furthermore, a car collision lawyer can assist you in determining liability, handling your claims, and if you are in doubt whether to negotiate for settlement. Likewise, they can help you out as well if the insurance adjuster requests for medical records prior to the accident or give you a deal that is not in accordance with your claims or offers partial payment instead of lump sum.

Consulting a car accident expert is vital in the following cases:

• Your application for claim has been denied by the insurance company
• You sustained serious injuries with huge medical expenses or have residual disability
• The victim is a minor
• Your claim is important but your evidence is vague
• Question of liability
• The details and circumstances surrounding the accident is complicated
• You have been sued by the injured party

Finally, a car accident attorney will inform you of your legal rights.

Our personal injury attorneys are knowledgeable in car accident claims and other related issues. To avail of our services of expert Los Angeles attorneys, you can log on to our official website to have your case evaluated.
